Student Organizations
The representatives of the College in the Student Council of TUT and the Student Board of Virumaa College actively participate in the organization of the study process. During the first years of its existence a tutor from among the teachers was appointed to every student group, and students elected head of the course. Two students (a student a third -year Anzela Aas and a second-year student Stanislav Tolmachev) are members of the Council of the College and representatives of Virumaa College in the Student Council of TUT. Students have their representatives in the College Council, the Curriculum Committee of the College and the Committee of Study Grants.
International student organisations AIESEC and IAESTE provide students with training experience abroad relevant to their studies.
Accommodation (catering, hygiene, recreation)
Virumaa College has a canteen (151 m2) for students and employees, where lunch and snacks are offered. The prices are reasonable.
College has a student hostel – 4155,2 m2. The renovation and modernization of the hostel is currently running. The Hostel has been renovated partially (a roof, the third and the fourth floor, the front of the house). With the help of 10 million kroons allocated by EU support programme in spring 2007 the first and second floor of the hostel, the front of the laboratory building were renovated, the hostel was furnished and equipped with domestic appliances, the drive leading to the college was built and landscaping work was started. After renovation the hostel will have 52 double rooms for students, 6 rooms for guest lecturers, 2 lecture halls, a conference hall, a fitness hall, a sauna, a laundry and all the needed ancillary premises. In the hostel a college library and a city pharmacy are located. In the hostel there are all conditions to follow necessary hygienic requirements. All the rooms have an access to the Internet. Estonian Ministry of the Interior allocated 3.5 million kroons for the development of laboratories, raising the qualification of the teaching staff and developing relationships with foreign educational institutions (incl staff exchange, the employment of foreign visiting lecturers).
The college has supported extracurricular activities of the students. Students have rooms for the Student Council. The college pays for the swimming pool and gym hours of the students. Traditional events include a Sports Day in autumn, ski competitions in winter, the celebration of Christmas, Valentine`s Day, Freshmen Welcome Ceremony. The College supports the students`attendance in cultural activities, contests, fairs. Students have field trips in order to get acquainted with prospective places of practical training or work and the newest technology used by employers there.
Leisure Activities
The aim of the Student Council of the college is the expansion of cultural and sports activities of students, the establishment and development of college’s traditions. A student represents their educational establishment outside the college. The traditional activities include the celebration of the anniversary of the college, the informal ceremony of being admitted as a student of a college, Christmas party and the celebration of the end of the academic year. Excursions, study visits (trade fairs, exhibitions) are organized. Basketball team has successfully participated in republican tournaments. The administration of the college supports the organization of students` free time activities in every possible way: students have a free access to sports hall and swimming pool.
